Aretha Obenson Makia, MD, attended Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and received her medical degree in 2001. She then served her internship and residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in Maryland. In addition, Dr. Makia received board certification in obstetrics and gynecology from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a member of the American Medical Association. Dr. Makia dedicates her spare time to her family, traveling, mentoring beauty pageants, painting, and humanitarian missions. She has travelled to Haiti to offer ground support to the victims of the earthquake, which separated several families and took many lives. In 2010, she was recognized with the Woman of Valor Award for her dedication to community development and female education.
